Positive School, an alternative school

Offering a different educational framework that supports each child’s academic and overall development is what motivates us to invest in an alternative school.

Indeed, in addition to the gradual and essential acquisition of the French Education Nationale’s “socle commun de connaissances, de compétences et de culture”, we pay particular attention to the development of psychosocial skills (creativity, critical thinking, growth mindset, psychosocial skills, collaboration between peers and with adults, development of constructive relationships with others, empathy) and metacognitive skills (learning to learn, memorization, planning, inhibitory control, attention).

Our experienced team respects the child’s individual needs and personality. They are fully committed to the development of each child’s potential. The environment is designed to stimulate curiosity, the desire to learn and the thirst for knowledge. The teachers are also there to observe and respond to your child’s particular needs, to encourage your child to persevere, and to be demanding with your child so that he or she can experience the value and personal enrichment that comes from overcoming difficulties and doing a job well. Perseverance and resistance to frustration are important for successful learning.

Positive School, an international school

Teaching in two languages, having children with different levels of proficiency in French and English in the classroom, and taking into account the languages and cultures of each family means that children are immersed in a multicultural environment.

After three years, a new language cannot be learned simply by immersion. It’s an apprenticeship, and like any apprenticeship, it requires the child to be active, attentive, willing and motivated to progress. That’s why we place so much emphasis on developing an environment and opportunities for interaction and discovery of many cultures, to develop an international mindset and a tolerant education.

Depending on the subject and the needs of the child and his/her family (a stay of a few weeks in France does not imply the same objectives as a more or less long-term move to France), lessons and interdisciplinary projects will be conducted in French or English.

Positive School, a school at the cutting edge of research

Today, numerous research studies have demonstrated the ineffectiveness of certain approaches that still persist in some classrooms, such as lecturing. We use the results of research into the most effective practices for facilitating learning:

  • a stimulating environment where students are encouraged to engage (an essential step in the constitution of real learning), explore and question to develop essential skills such as critical thinking and problem solving ;
  • a pedagogical approach centered on the child, projects and interdisciplinarity, offering a rich and varied program to enable everyone to develop and realize their full potential;
  • a team involved in numerous training programs several times a year;
    a global approach that takes into account both body and mind. Our Latin “Mens sana in corpore sano” proves to be just as essential to a child’s overall development, even in the face of the test of time. The need for movement is fundamental. The need for a connection between the intellectual aspect and the physical activity aspect is more important than ever.
  • learning to learn better: by better understanding the mechanisms of learning, we can better develop our abilities: attention, commitment to the activity, the importance of error, consolidation in the memorization process, taking stress into account are all important objectives in facilitating learning.
  • Multi-age classes: this organization enables children to progress at their own pace, to collaborate, to develop mutual aid, to nurture interest by observing others, and to review mistakes flexibly and without judgment. It naturally develops cooperation.
  • an environment that welcomes and supports the development of neuroatypical children and, by finding a solution to a particular difficulty, enhances the quality of the environment for all. Without labels, but by offering everyone a better understanding of our differences and our common humanity, we help children to build, day by day, a more respectful environment.
